Titus - getting inside the Cretan mindset
Sorry for all those who are offended by cross dressing but it was for a good cause. Monday evening we had a skit night in which we did some historical research as to who the Cretans (people living on the island of Crete) were and then made skits up to help ourselves get inside the mind of Titus, the original reader. This is an important step in that the books of the Bible were NOT written TO US, they were written FOR US. Titus, for example was written to... Titus... so to understand what Paul was saying we have to understand not only who he was but also who he was writing to. I just happened to have to dress up like a nymph (a young woman who was promiscuous and had no loyalty to her husband or children but wanted to live freely and worshipped the Greek goddess Artemis).
These are the rest of my team, as you can tell there was a bit of roll revearsal as the ladies dressed up like Cretans (notoriously burly men who were gluttons, drunkards, and compulsive liars) and us guys played the roles of nymphs. The night was quite out of control but successful in that we all got a good taste of what the culture was that Paul was writing into. I will try to post my final application from Titus soon. We start Ephesians tommorrow and will finish it Tuesday.
